Acupuncture and Sports Medicine

Jeffrey will be talking about using acupuncture in a Sports Medicine context. Acupuncture, as one of the pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a comprehensive health care system to preserve health and prevent illness. In particular, acupuncture promotes the continuous and even flow of Qi (pronounced “Chee”) through pathways called channels or meridians. This network of meridians connects and nourishes every part of the body to provide balance and regulation of the physiological processes. By applying acupuncture to specific injuries and complaints, it is able to boost healing and athletic performance. Jeffrey with show the mechanisms that make this possible with a practical, down to earth approach.

Yoga

Deepening and Developing a Personal Yoga Practice

Explore the art of creating and maintaining a personal yoga practice by addressing issues of motivation, self-discipline, and intuition. Each individual will have an opportunity to uncover postures, sequences, and practices which resonate with one's mind and body. You will leave feeling confident and enthusiastic about your personal journey through yoga and be better able to utilize group classes and workshops to broaden your approach and vision of your yoga experience. We’ll go into different established flows and formats to uncover the logic behind these systems. Included in this portion of the workshop will be an examination of the Salutations and how they can be customized to the individual to create a soulful dance of body and breath. Following this will be an exploration of intuition through the use of blindfolds and ear plugs, moving from one posture to another under the guidance of your own natural perfection. (4-6hrs of material, can be done in 1-4 parts)

 

Yoga Breathing Basics

Everything that lives, breathes. Breathe better and live better. This talk is designed for people new to yoga who want some easy ways to access a sense of serenity. Can be done in a chair or on the floor.

 

Detox and Retox: A Wine and Yoga Class

For millennia, both wine and yoga have been used as tools to bring us closer to the divine. On this special evening, we'll pair the subtle flavors of wine with the deep relaxation offered by Hatha Yoga. Achieve a calm and focused mind to rediscover the subtle characters of wine. Feel the wine infuse your yoga with warmth and a lightness of spirit. Light up your senses as you relax into poses!

All participants must be 21 or over.

 

Cupid’s Couples Yoga

Jeff and Katy will lead couples through meditation, breathing practices, partner yoga, and Thai massage designed to deepen the connection between individuals: exploring the part of yoga that is union of one with another. In a safe (and clothed) environment, couples will synchronize the movements of their practice with their partner as well as help deepen each other’s practice. No yoga experience necessary.

 

Athletes’ Yoga

The tools provided in the canon of yoga postures and movements can be utilized to create a rigorous full body workout that can be done anywhere with minimal equipment. Most workout regimes, while giving tone, strength and endurance to the muscular system, ignore the other integral parts of the body and don’t address the importance of a clear and focused mind in all athletic endevours. Yoga, as an ancient practice, tunes both mind and body like a fine instrument. This strong workshop will increase flexibility, strength, mental clarity and challenge one’s endurance for enhanced performance.

Be prepared to sweat.

 

Introduction to Yoga

This class gives new and first-time students a solid foundation from which to begin their practice. The objectives of this workshop is to demystify the practice, clarify yoga terminology, and explore the basic yoga poses and movements. All ages and abilities will find yoga easy and accessable.

 

Yoga for the Bros

Men in yoga classes are frequently lost in a sea of beautiful women and rarely get the type of advice geared toward our particular bodies; often, toughing it out. Learn how not to suffer tight hips, exploit extra upper body strength, and how to apply yoga to prostate health and all things manly.

 

Yoga for Surfing

Use  the restorative aspects of yoga to recover from big surf days, prevent injuries that keep you out of the water, and learn yoga postures specific to conditioning a surfers body: adding power, flexibility, and endurance to shoulders and lower back.
